Congratulations to Kaja Słupska on successfully defending her Master’s thesis, “Floodplains of Lowland Rivers as a Source of Greenhouse Gas Emissions: The Case of the Biebrza River”, conducted within the framework of the Flux Flood project under the supervision of Anna Sieczko.
Kaja investigated how the main river channel and adjacent side arms contribute to the greenhouse gas budget of river floodplains. Her findings demonstrate that both the main channel of the Biebrza river and its adjacent side-arms are active components of the carbon cycle. However, they contribute differently to the greenhouse gas budget of river floodplains, highlighting the importance of considering aquatic habitat diversity when assessing greenhouse gas emissions from these ecosystems.
