This week, our team carried out intensive fieldwork in the breathtaking landscapes of Biebrza National Park, focusing on mapping greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions along the Biebrza River and its side arms.

Our field campaign continues at full intensity. Following our recent visit to the floodplains near Vienna, we moved on to our Polish research sites to carry out a new round of soil–atmosphere GHG flux measurements and equipment maintenance. During the visit, we:

🔧 Field Update from Donau-Auen National Park (Austria) This week, we made a quick trip to our research site near Vienna to check on the automated flux chambers that are continuously recording high-resolution data on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from floodplain soils. These instruments are crucial for monitoring changes in CO₂ and CH₄ fluxes, particularly in response to hydrological dynamics. Unfortunately, water levels remain exceptionally low, and the long-anticipated flooding event has not yet occurred; a pattern we are observing across several sites this season.

This week, we returned to our research sites in Donau-Auen National Park alongside Nadija Čehajić (BOKU University), who collected water samples as part of the DANUBIUS project. From our side, we focused on maintaining and verifying the performance of our automated flux chambers that continuously monitor CO₂ and CH₄ aquatic fluxes from floodplain.

This week, our team conducted a quick check-in at our research sites along the Narew, Rospuda, and Biebrza Rivers. From dawn until dusk, we verified the performance of our automated flux chambers, which are equipped with solar panels and sensors measuring CH₄ and CO₂ emissions.
