New PRELUDIUM NCN project in CBK
Project title
Monitoring peatland vertical displacement and carbon emissions in Poland using remote sensing

We’re excited to announce that Pouya Ghezelayagh’s PRELUDIUM NCN project has been awarded.
The project focuses on implementing a novel remote sensing–based approach to estimate peatland carbon emissions across Poland using satellite radar data. Peatlands play a crucial role in storing carbon and mitigating climate change, but when they are degraded, they can quickly become a source of carbon release rather than carbon absorption. This research aims to identify where and to what extent this is occurring in Poland. Through satellite observations, the project will monitor peatland conditions and carbon emissions on a national scale.
Congratulations to Mr. Ghezelayagh on this achievement, and many thanks to the NCN – National Science Centre for supporting impactful climate research!
